The 2023 Merriam Police Officer of the Year was promoted to sergeant at the Oct. 14 City Council meeting.

Sgt. Chris Meyers is a 10-year veteran with the police department. He’s an instructor in firearms, emergency vehicle operations, and stop sticks. He’s also the lead drone pilot, police training officer, and communications liaison for the department’s radio system.

Before serving Merriam residents, Meyers was a graphic designer for five years. He made a career change so he could “make a difference.”

“It’s the most rewarding job I’ve ever had,” Meyers said.

The promotion to sergeant included a pinning ceremony at the City Council meeting. Meyers’ wife, Shelbi, and stepson, Wesley, pinned on his new badge.

Meyers said he’s excited to start this next chapter in his career.

“We have a great department with a lot of great officers and community that supports us, so I’m really looking forward to the future at our department,” Meyers said.
