Merriam police officers recently participated in the statewide Click It or Ticket campaign, where they wrote tickets if they saw drivers or their passengers not wearing a seatbelt.
During the two-week campaign, officers made 71 Click It or Ticket enforcement stops. They handed out 35 tickets for seat belt violations and 27 citations for speeding.
Sponsored by the Kansas Department of Transportation, the goal is to reduce the number of preventable traffic injuries and deaths.
