Parking

Merriam Community Center  |  Merriam Plaza Library

The parking structure has upper level and lower level parking. Both levels are accessible from the Slater St. entrance or the Ikea Way entrance. Both levels have a maximum vehicle height of just over 8 feet. Vehicles over this height, such as buses, should coordinate alternative parking with facility staff.

  • The circle drive at the Slater St. entrance may be used for quick drop off or pick up. Parking is not allowed in the circle.
  • There is a crosswalk at the lower level entrance / exit. Stop and check for pedestrians before exiting.
  • Overflow parking is available at Merriam City Hall across Ikea Way.

Accessible Parking

An official state-issued ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) license plate or placard is required and must be displayed to park in spaces designated for accessibility (marked with an international wheelchair symbol).

Please call 913-322-5550 if you need wheelchair assistance from the parking structure to the Merriam Community Center.

Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging

Merriam provides several locations to charge EVs for free. These parking spaces should only be used by vehicles that need to charge. The spaces are not dedicated parking spaces for EVs, nor are they additional parking for non-EVs.

Merriam Municipal Code Section 68-94 prohibits non-charging vehicles from using designated EV charging spaces. Violators could be fined a minimum of $100. A sign is posted at each charging station that this applies to.

An ADA placard is also required to use the EV charger at the spaces designated for accessibility. Violators could be ticketed.

Pedestrian Crossings

There are many crosswalks located around the buildings and parking structure. Please drive slowly and be mindful of pedestrian safety. Stop and check for pedestrians before exiting the lower level of the parking structure.
