Several Merriam residents will see new sidewalks in their neighborhoods and along the eastbound ramp at Shawnee Mission Parkway and Carter Ave. The enhancements are part of the City’s commitment to improving walkability to neighborhood parks, schools, and businesses across Merriam.
Construction crews are putting in new sidewalks, ADA compliant sidewalk ramps, and curbs at West 66th Terrace and Burnham St., 56th St. and 56th Terrace off Farley St., 56th Terrace off Goodman St., Switzer Road from 53rd St. to 55th St., and along Carter Ave. at Shawnee Mission Parkway.
This is the third of four planned sidewalk infill projects.
The City said the new sidewalks will make for safer travel across Merriam. Crews have started putting in sidewalks and curbs along Switzer Road from 53rd to 55th streets. They will work on the Shawnee Mission Parkway eastbound ramp in about two weeks.
Funded by the City’s Capital Improvement Program, this project should be completed by mid-November, weather permitting.
