The City of Merriam recently received the Engineering Excellence Award for Innovation and Outstanding Engineering from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Kansas (ACEC Kansas).
The award recognizes complex and unique or innovative applications to engineering projects. Merriam partnered with the engineering firm Affinis Corp. for a three-month long construction project to improve street pavement, sidewalks, street lighting, and storm drainage along Merriam Lane and at 51st St. between Switzer Road and Knox Ave. The City said the project was needed to support economic growth in the two areas.
“We always strive for excellence and innovative options for our residents,” Public Works Director Kevin Bruemmer said. “This award is a true testament to the hard work, expertise, and dedication provided by Affinis and City staff.”
ACEC Kansas representatives presented the award at the Feb. 12 City Council meeting.
