Sidewalk Infill Program

2017–2020
Fill in sidewalk in areas that either have no sidewalk or have partial sidewalks that need to be  connected. It’s proposed to break this project into phases so that it can be properly managed and constructed with lower impact on the residents. Phase 4 includes portions of W. 56th Terrace and Perry Ave., and is scheduled to begin in fall 2020.

Johnson Drive CARS Project

July – October 2020
Street improvements on Johnson Drive from the BNSF train tracks to east city limits will include:

  • Repaving Johnson Drive from the BNSF train tracks to Mackey Road 
  • Replacing driveway approaches to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act 
  • Adding sidewalks 
  • Installing streetlights 
  • Replacing curbs and gutters

A public meeting about the project was held at Merriam City Hall on March 11.

Mastin Drainage Improvements

May – August 2020
Storm drains on the west side of Mastin St. from 61st Terrace to 62nd St. were replaced in summer 2019. Staff recommended the construction of a right turn lane to Merriam Park Elementary. The project is adding mill and overlay and storm drain repairs to Mastin St. from Johnson Drive to Shawnee Mission Parkway. Construction is anticipated to begin mid-April.

A public meeting about the project was held at Merriam City Hall on March 11.
