Merriam Municipal Court canceled 2/21/13 due to winter weather - The Merriam Municipal Court was canceled on Thursday, February 21st due to winter weather.  If you were scheduled to appear in court that day, your new court date will be March 7, 2013.
 

The Municipal Court is the court where alleged violations of City ordinances and the penal statues of Kansas are tried. The court provides a forum in which citizens may receive a swift and impartial trial on charges brought against them. The Court's responsibility is to guarantee the lawful rights of all who are brought before it. The Municipal Court hears an average of nearly 800 cases each month.

Q: Where is the Municipal Court located?
The Merriam Municipal Court is located in the lower level of City Hall.
Driving directions: Take the Shawnee Mission Parkway exit off of I-35 and go east to Eby. Go north (left) on Eby, continue north at the 4-way stop. Park and enter at the north side of the building. The Muncipal Court Clerk's office is located at the second window.

Q: Where do I send payment for a ticket?
Payments can be mailed along with your signed ticket to:

Q: Can I pay double the fine to keep convictions off my driving record?
In most cases, yes. Please call (913) 322-5540 and speak with a court clerk regarding the policies and procedures for amending your violation.

Q: Can I get a continuance over the phone?
No. You have to appear in court on the date and time listed on your ticket and request a continuance from the judge or prosecutor.

Q: How can I take care of my warrant?
You can either go to the Merriam Police Department (6190 Eby Street) and post bond by cash or bonding company.

Q: Is the prosecutor or judge available during regular business hours?
No. The prosecutor and judge are only available on court dates (Tuesdays at 10:30AM & Thursdays at 3PM and 6PM).

Q: Do I have to make an appointment with the prosecutor to talk about amending a ticket to a non-moving violation?
No. The court date and time on your ticket is when you have to opportunity to speak to the prosecutor.

Q: Can I fax a copy of my proof of insurance?
Yes, as long as it is received within 10 days of ticket issuance. The Municipal Court's fax number is (913) 322-5545. Please include a phone number where you can be reached in case there is any questions or problems with the information you submit.
