This afternoon, the Kansas Dept. of Transportation announced an emergency traffic alert, regarding a short-term lane closure on Frontage Rd., adjacent to northbound I-35 from Shawnee Mission Medical Center Driveway to 74th Street. This section of road will be closed around the clock to repair an emergency drainage slope issue beginning today, Mon., March 27, through late April/early May 2017, weather permitting.
The drainage outlet structure located between the Frontage Road and northbound I-35 lanes (just north of 75th Street) is fed from a pipe located underneath a Shawnee Mission Medical Center parking lot that moves water under I-35 to drain on west side of highway. The pipe junction has been damaged and the water is now eroding the earth at a more rapid rate due to recent rains. Access to Frontage Rd. must be closed to keep the shoulder slope from shifting due to weight of vehicles traveling on it as KDOT works on an emergency repair to the structure
Drivers must use alternate routes via Antioch Road until all necessary repair work can be completed.
