MERRIAM, KANSAS (January 15, 2013) – This week, the City of Merriam welcomed Christopher Engel to the position of Assistant City Administrator. Engel, who was appointed by a unanimous vote of the Merriam City Council, started his new position with the City, Tuesday.

“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to be a part of the team in Merriam and look forward to quickly contributing,” says Engel.

Engel most recently served as the Assistant to the City Administrator in Prairie Village, Kansas, where he oversaw the parks and recreation department, coordinated the City’s emergency management program, and worked with council to develop Prairie Village’s annual legislative platform. Prior to his time at Prairie Village, Engel was a Management Assistant for the City of Mission Hills, Kansas.

Engel received his bachelor’s degree and Master of Public Administration from the University of Kansas. He is an associate member of the International City/County Management Association (ICMA) and the Kansas Association of City/County Management (KACM). He has served as the Vice President of Strategic Development for the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA) and is a 2008 graduate of the Leadership Northeast program offered through the Northeast Johnson County Chamber.

“I feel fortunate that we were able to attract some the best and brightest talent in the Midwest for this position,” said City Administrator Phil Lammers. “We are excited to have Chris join the team and I’m confident that he will make a great complement to our leadership staff.”
