City of Merriam issues burn ban

MERRIAM, KANSAS (June 28, 2012) – The Merriam Fire Department has issued a burn ban effective immediately for the City of Merriam. The State Fire Marshal has warned of fire hazards associated with extreme heat and extremely dry conditions across the state. In response, the City of Merriam is suspending open and recreational burning, until further notice. All burn permits issued by the Merriam Fire Department are suspended until further notice. This ban will likely remain in effect until our area receives appreciable rainfall.

Outdoor grilling is still permitted, but grillers are urged to use extreme caution and have a means of fire suppression available when grilling.

As a reminder, the sale, shooting or possession of any type of firework is prohibited in the City of Merriam. Fines can range from $25 to $500 and/or you can receive a 1-30 day jail sentence.

Please contact the Merriam Fire Department at 913.322.5530 with any questions or concerns.
